Kids’ Summer Reading Program

Reading

Log your summer reading and activities in Beanstack between June 1 and July 31 to earn badges and prizes.  Visit fortlibrary.beanstack.org or download the Beanstack Tracker app.  Paper reading logs will be available upon request.  The library offers separate reading challenges for babies and toddlers, kids, teens, and adults.

Baby/Toddler Reading Challenge: Receive one prize after you log ten books and another prize after complete six activities.

Preschool-5th Grade Reading Challenge: Earn prizes after logging two, four, and six hours of reading.  Earn entries in our raffle drawings by logging extra hours of reading and completing activities.

Family Fort Building

Friday, June 7 from 5:30-7 p.m.
Library Children’s Area
Stay in the library after hours to create a cool reading fort! Bring a good book, a flashlight, and indoor fort-building materials–such as sheets, pillows, and blankets. The library doors will be locked at 6 p.m. All kids must be accompanied by an adult. Glow sticks and a snack will be provided.

Parenting Play Group

May 14, June 11, July 9, and August 13 from 2-3 p.m.
Library Storytime Room
The Parenting Play Group is a shared time for parents and their children, ages zero to five, to engage in social connections through open-ended playtime, specific developmental activities, and interactions with other families. This group is led by registered nurses with the Jefferson County Health Department who specialize in breastfeeding support, car seat safety, social connectedness, and developmental stages.

James the Magician

There’s one thing that drives every single one of magician James Ember‘s performances—he knows joy is contagious. The joy passes from the performer to the audience, then from audience members to each other, and, by the end of the show, everyone is laughing, smiling, and having fun.

David Landau

Come to an upbeat musical program that will keep kids engaged and entertained. Kids will sing, move, act, dance, shout (just a little bit), and laugh.

Monoprinting Family Fun Night with Sally Koehler

Tuesday, June 25 at 6 p.m.
Library Storytime Room
Join local artist Sally Koehler for monoprinting fun. Monoprinting is a form of printmaking where the image can only be used one time. Using acrylic paint and some tools, you can design your own print and then transfer the design to paper. Registration is not required for this program. If a large number of people attend this program, attendees will spend time at stamping and book stations while waiting for their turn at the monoprinting station.

Ms. Kim’s Amazing Animals

Thursday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m.
Library Community Room
Join Ms. Kim and her amazing animals for an interactive live animal show that educates and entertains. Stars of the show include lizards, snakes, a hedgehog, a chinchilla, and a 25-year-old tortoise. Participants will get a chance to hold and touch some of their favorite critters. A treat for animal lovers of all ages.

Bingo for Books

Tuesday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Families are invited to play bingo (with children’s books as prizes).

Duke Otherwise

Thursday, July 11 at 1:30 p.m.

With his guitar, tap shoes, and unique baritone, Duke Otherwise performs a highly-interactive show featuring his witty original songs and his outstanding musicianship.

Mad Science: Up, Up, and Away

Thursday, July 18 at 1:30 p.m.
Library Community Room
During this event, experiments demonstrating the principles of air and pressure will captivate the audience. A dry-cleaning bag that becomes a hot air balloon, creating air vortexes with our vortex generator, and an exothermic reaction will leave the audience “blown” away!
