Join us at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, as we wrap up National Library Week with an appearance by local author Mark O’Connell in the library’s FCCU Community Room. Mark will be introducing us to his fascinating biography of Dr. J. Allen Hynek, The Close Encounters Man—How One Man Made the World Believe in UFOs.
Mark got his start writing for Star Trek: The Next Generation & Deep Space Nine. With his 2017 biography of Dr. Hynek, Mark has gone from writing science-fiction to writing science-fact. Hynek was a well-respected astronomer and university professor who spent years debunking UFO reports for the Air Force, until he realized that there was something very big and very real going on.
To better understand the UFO experience before writing his book, Mark spent several years as a Certified UFO Field Investigator for the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) and learned that there are an awful lot of sane, sensible people like Dr. Hynek who have had strange and scary encounters with inexplicable things in the sky. Armed with that understanding, Mark spent over five years researching Dr. Hynek’s dual careers as a prominent astronomer and world-renowned UFO researcher.
Come and see if Dr. Hynek made Mark believe in UFOs!
