Library Building & Grounds Committee Meeting
Tuesday, June 19, 2012 3:00p.m.
Present: Libby Jones, Bill Camplin, Bonnie Hamm, and Connie Meyer/Library Director
Discuss Tree Donation from Modern Woodmen of American. Modern Woodmen of America has a "Plant a tree" program designed to beautify communities, promote ecology, and offer opportunities for meaningful family activities. They are willing to donate a tree to the library.
The committee decided to look at our space and then decide whether or not we have a suitable place for a tree. After viewing the property, the committee decided that a tree planted on the library's terrace on East Milwaukee Avenue (preferably in the area just east of the driveway opening) would be a wonderful addition to the property. Because there are no overhead lines to consider and the area lacks trees, a tree in that location would be very much appreciated and the consensus was to accept the donation. It was felt by the committee members that a tree in this location would not have to be moved or removed no matter how the library decides to utilize the parsonage property in the future.
There was also a discussion about what kind of tree it might be and Connie indicated that the Modern Woodman of America contact person has informed her that they have an arborist who would help with the tree selection but that typically a good sized maple is what they are planting. Connie was given the name and phone number of the arborist. The timetable was also discussed. Connie said that they would like to plant on June 26th. Committee members felt that it might not be the best time to plant and encouraged Connie to inquire about the possibility of a Fall planting date.
Meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Connie Meyer
